Brian “Doc” Young is artistically influenced by living in the American southwest. He was raised in Arizona on the rhythms and melodies of the confluences of country, cowboy and caballero cultures with the ubiquity of blues, rockabilly and rock and roll. The sounds of rattle snakes, coyotes and wide-open spaces intermingled with the urbanity of Phoenix and Tempe. He spent his early adulthood deep in the heart of Texas experiencing its rich multicultural musical influences before building his community in the true crossroads of the west, Utah’s Rocky Mountains.
Brian now calls Salt Lake City his home where you may have seen him perform as a solo artist or in his bands Barrelhouse, Menlo and, most recently, the DayLates. As Doc Young, he continues to pursue his goal of writing and performing music that brings together people from all ages and backgrounds. Consistent with his heroes like Jerry Jeff Walker, Johnny Cash and Tom T. Hall, his original songs reflect the beauty and resilience of the human experience.
A multi-instrumentalist with a powerful voice and a penchant for storytelling, his performances are always engaging. He is as entertaining performing at libraries, zoos, schools and summer camps as he is in bars, restaurants, house concerts and festivals.
